Frequently Asked Questions

You have questions. I have answers.

If you’ve read any of my books and have questions, I have answers. Submit your questions on the contact page, and I will answer them here.

Why do you have two pen names?

Besides having many names myself? Just kidding. … Kind of.

Really, it’s publication practices. I started my author career as an Indie author, but have always wanted to be published traditionally (ie with one of the big 5). Due to copyright, those agents and publishers don’t tend to bring on indie authors (unless their indie-book has already sold millions). So, if I want my future books to be picked up, I have to be willing to rebrand.

Plus, AMH Johnson is surprisingly hard to brand. I guess because the name Johnson is so common.

I’m not the first author to have to do this. Rebranding. At least I’m using my maiden name, and the name I’ve always answered to instead of one I had to make up.

When did you start writing?

I started writing in high school, although it could be argued I started in middle school, if you include really bad fanfiction. I used writing as a way to escape, especially when I was in detention. I wouldn’t say I was a bad kid, but I was habitually late, which caused all of my detainment. Anyway, this habit developed into a passion that surprised my teachers towards the end of my schooling.

What genre do you write?

I am predominately a Romance author. My first book, Midnight Over Moores, was YA Horror/Fantasy, but has some clear romance tendencies. My second book, #Hipster, was a Contemporary Romance novella.

The books I am working on now are another Contemporary Romance, and a Fantasy/Romance series. I’d like to say it’s Romantasy, but once I plotted out the other books, there’s more Fantasy than Romance.

I am also working on the sequel for Midnight Over Moores, Ghosts on Gaston. It’s been in the works for a while, but because I’m a scaredy cat, and I literally terrified myself while writing the first book …. I’ve been dragging my feet.
